For my own piece, I missed the colonialist interpretation entirely when I wrote it. I was trying to convey the idea that the governments of nations with space programs and large population density would see shipping large numbers of people out into space as a solution to their overcrowding problem, and that they would be more likely to start such programs (or, perhaps, be pressured into starting such programs) than places like the United States. That may be an erroneous assumption.

Furthermore, I realize that "we" can easily be taken to be the People of Privilege, who will build on the lives of the Poor Brown People with maybe a token appreciation day, but when I was writing it, I was thinking of "we" as The Human Race, Privileged and non-Privileged alike.

It is my fault for not adequately explaining what I actually meant when I posted that material. As we review and converse, I hope that we will be able to come up with something that will make it much less likely that any post put here has the kind of poor phrasing that brought on the richly-deserved criticism. (Or, if it is coming in, it will receive that richly-deserved criticism in droves much like the last post did.)
