'Vulture funds' sue poverty-stricken Liberia - 26 Nov 09

Two offshore investment funds are taking the poverty-stricken African state of Liberia to London's High Court, over an unpaid debt that dates back to the 1970s.

The Caribbean-based companies, described as "vulture funds" want more than $20m.

But Liberia says it can't afford to pay the debt, and accuses the firms of profiting from poverty.

You know what gets me?

White People Then Going: "Africa is only poor because they won't help themselves." But then again they likely tune out when this stuff is on news.
